Storia del Blues
Questa breve storia del Blues intende presentare in maniera organica quelli che furono gli eventi, gli stili, i protagonisti della prima espressione artistica originale della comunità nera degli Stati Uniti d’America.
Lo svolgersi degli avvenimenti è raccontato dagli anni della schiavitù, passa attraverso il County Blues con tutte le sue sfumature, quindi racconta delle classiche Blues Singer, del Blues Urbano, del Rock Blues, fino ad arrivare alle tendenze attuali.
Sono considerati anche tutti quegli stili nati o che in qualche modo si sono fusi con esso, quali il Soul, il Rhythm 'n' Blues, il Gospel, il Rock 'n' Roll, il Funk, la Disco Music, tenendo sempre conto del contesto storico, sociale e musicale in cui si sono sviluppati.
Strutture Armoniche del Blues (seconda edizione)
Il libro prende in rassegna le strutture del blues e come queste si sono evolute a partire dagli inizi del secolo scorso fino ai giorni nostri. Viene prima analizzata la progressione standard, così come definita nella sua forma primordiale del Country Blues, cristallizzatasi nel periodo del Blues Classico, ed utilizzata anche nello Urban Blues e nelle successive evoluzioni del Rhythm ‘n’ Blues, Funk, Blues Rock. Si passa quindi ai giri di Blues con sostituzioni, nati dalla necessità dei “boppers” di avere una maggiore libertà di improvvisazione. Apice di questo periodo è rappresentato dai Parker Changes. Viene quindi presentata in dettaglio la progressione di un vero classico, "Call It Stormy Monday (But Tuesday is Just as Bad)" di T-Bone Walker, nella versione degli Allman Brothers Band. I successivi sviluppi del Blues in ambito jazzistico portarono alle arditezze armoniche di Coltrane e del Free Jazz. Vengono presi in considerazione anche i Blues Minori, i Blues particolari costituiti da otto, sedici, ventiquattro battute ed i Blues Waltzes

Tecniche di Chitarra Blues
Il libro prende in rassegna le varie tecniche che vengono utilizzate nell’ambito della chitarra Blues, sia acustica che elettrica , e che ogni aspirante Bluesman dovrebbe conoscere e padroneggiare.
Si parte dal fingerpicking utilizzato nel Country Blues, con le tecniche del basso alternato tipiche del Piedimont Style, del monotonic bass del Texas Blues, del dumping delle corde ottenuto con la mano destra.
Viene descritto come affrontare le linee melodiche utilizzando l’ambiguità tonale fornita dalla scala Blues. Si parla del ritmo e della pronuncia del fraseggio Blues con i concetti di sincope e di swing feel. Vengono analizzate le tecniche della mano sinistra quali l’hammer-on, il pull-off, gli abbellimenti (acciaccatura, mordente, trillo, tremolo, glissato). Si arriva quindi al bending al vibrato, ed ai double stop.
Chiude una sezione che introduce alle accordature alternative e l’utilizzo del bottleneck.
Understanding Blues Progressions
The book reviews the blues structures and how these have evolved from the beginning of the last century to present day. The book first analyzes the standard progression. This progression, as defined in its primordial form of the Country Blues, crystallized in the Classic Blues period and was used also in Urban Blues and subsequent evolutions of Rhythm 'n' Blues, Funk, and Blues Rock. The book moves on to cover Blues progressions with substitution, created by the “boppers'" need to have more freedom of improvisation. The pinnacle of this period is represented by the Parker changes. Therefore, the progression of a true classic, "Call It Stormy Monday (But Tuesday is Just as Bad)" by T-Bone Walker, in the version of the Allman Brothers Band, is presented in detail. Subsequent developments of Blues in a jazz context led to the harmonic boldness of Coltrane and Free Jazz.
Minor-key Blues, a particular type of Blues consisting of eight, sixteen, and twenty-four bars and the Blues Waltzes are also reviewed

Blues Guitar Techniques
The book takes an overview of the various techniques that are used as part of the Blues Guitar, both acoustic and electric, and that any aspiring Bluesman should know and master.
It begins with fingerpicking used in Country Blues, with techniques typical of the alternating bass of the Piedmont Style, and moves to the monotonic bass of Texas Blues, and damping of the strings obtained with the right hand.
It explains how to deal with the melodic lines using the tonal ambiguity provided by the Blues Scale. It covers rhythm and Blues phrasing ruling with syncopation concepts and Swing Feel. The techniques of the left hand are analyzed such as hammer-ons, pull-offs, embellishments (acciaccature, mordent, trill, tremolo, and slide). Finally, it covers Bending, Vibrato, and Double-Stops.
It closes with a section that introduces Alternate Tunings and the use of the Bottleneck.
